Fall Fishing is Here!

My favorite month, October has arrived and it's Swimbait Time!

Sherry has the house all decorated for Halloween, the windows are open for some great sleeping and the bass are schooling up in the creeks.
Had a busy weekend moving Marshall (step-son) into his new place Saturday. Glad that's over. Slept in Sunday till 7:30 am. A bit later than I intended, but once up I left met a buddy Frank Arnold at Tuckertown Reservoir for a few hours.

We didn't come across any big fish, but we caught keepers pretty steady all day on top water and a few on a Super Hog in the tree tops. Found a few pockets where the shad were starting to gather up. Bass were slicing through them here and there, but we missed the early morning schooling bite.

K-Pro Jig Heads 1/4 & 3/8
I did got to throw a swimbait on the new K-Pro jig heads I helped John Martin at True South Custom Lures design. This is a great 90-deg style head I love to throw rigged with 3-6" soft plastic swimbaits. They come 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8. I fish the 3/8 99% of the time. They make it easy to fish deep or shallow and make long casts. My rod of choice is a 7' medium cranking rod with a 5:1 reel spooled with 12lb co-polymer.

Started using co-polymer line last year for almost all my moving baits and I like the improved feel over mono. It has a small bit more stretch than braid or true polymer line. This seems to help me from ripping the bait away from the fish setting the hook (I am a monster hook setter) and tearing to big a hole in the fishes mouth with the small diameter sharp hooks these style jig heads have.

So get out there armed with a K-Pro and start checking the backs of the creeks for some fun, fast, schooling bass action!
